My name is Aly Messinger and I am from Mendham, New Jersey. Like Sammy Jo, I also have a family that is deeply involved in sports. My father, mother and three older sisters have all played a Division 1 sport. I grew up obsessed with learning the ins and outs of lacrosse from a very young age. I came to the University of North Carolina in 2012 in hopes of winning a national championship for the many family members before me who had the same dreams as me. I wanted to make them proud. I was fortunate enough to meet one of my very best friends, Sammy Jo at college, who shared all the same dreams as me. We clicked instantly and we were determined to make our goals happen. Looking back at it, i am truly blessed to have accomplished the things i have with sammy by my side. Becoming a 2X National Champion, 3X All-American and finishing my career as a National championship MVP was amazing. After my college career i got the opportunity to become an Assistant Coach as the U.S Naval Academy, where i have helped continue to build their program. This year our team won their first ever game against a ranked opponent, went to their first quarter final and final four game and won the patriot league. My goal as a coach is to continue to help grow this sport in anyway possible. I aspire to be someone who can implement confidence, strength and toughness in young developing players. I specialize in dodging, footwork and feeding and want to share my knowledge across the coasts.
We believe that it is our duty to share the amazing experiences we have had in our careers with younger generations. We were grateful enough to have many role models and coaches who were able to challenge us and make us who we are today. We want to do the very same thing to the athletes that surround us. Our goal isn’t just to make you the best lacrosse player you can be, it’s to make you the best person you can be. We want to challenge you to get out of your comfort zone, handle adversity, be creative and pioneer the next generation of women’s lacrosse.
